The purpose of a query letter is to introduce yourself and your book to a literary agent. Your letter should be concise (one-half to one page), intriguing, and well-crafted. An agent  interested in your book will request additional information – your book proposal, sample pages, or the complete manuscript. You should query several agents simultaneously.

A professional query letter sent via mail or email is your first written contact with a literary agent.
